Meeting notices and fundraising events are being advertised in the Mesabi Daily News Range Pulse as well as the Gilbert Herald along with being posted on this website, at City Hall and Gilbert Public Library.
The centennial will be here faster than we think so any help is greatly appreciated!

BELOW IS A SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR 2008 CENTENNIAL:
Tuesday July 1st
3 - 7 p.m. Members of the public are invited to bring historic Gilbert materials for display during the Centennial in the Community Center Dining Room. The materials will be tagged and exhibited securely. Use the back parking lot and marked back door for delivery. Materials will be available for pick-up on Sunday July 6th.
Little Miss Gilbert Drawing and Coronation Ceremony 7 p.m. at Community Center Auditorium.
Wednesday July 2nd
Medallion Hunt begins ~ First Clue will be POSTED at City Hall and Gilbert Public Library at 8:00 a.m., printed in the Mesabi Daily News & announced on WEVE. Brush up on your "Gilbert" history to win $2008.00!!! Sponsored by RLK Inc. (Must be registered with a numbered button to be eligible!)
Registration 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Old City Hall (Register to receive a numbered button, event information, walking tour brochure and also register with the Gilbert Alumni Association, purchase event tickets and Centennial merchandise.)
Aerobics with Sharon Asselin at the Community Center Auditorium 9 – 10 a.m.
Historical Open House at Community Center 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Historical Exhibits in Dining Room to tour at leisure. Exhibits by the Iron Range Historical Society, American Legion, Robert Kivela, Gilbert residents and 1951 Basketball Champions books by Tom Phillipich.
Teen Center Open House (old Legion Room) at Community Center 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Children’s Historical Entertainment by Living History Society of Minnesota 1 – 1:45 p.m. in Community Center Auditorium.
Children’s “Make and Take” Art Workshop by Sharon and Ken Asselin 2 – 3 p.m. in the Community Center Auditorium.
Children’s Story Teller Gloria Hegg 3:15 – 4 p.m. in Community Center Auditorium.
Car Cruise on Broadway 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Dance Lessons 6:30 p.m. with Barb and Al Nelson at Gilbert VFW.

Dance to Sh-Boom 8 p.m. – 12 midnight at Gilbert VFW. Gilbert Centennial Committee will be sponsoring contests. (Must be registered with a numbered button to be eligible for prizes!)

Thursday July 3rd

AEOA Buses will be provided by the Centennial Committee from Eveleth High School parking lot and the Gilbert OHV Park parking lot to Gilbert and back starting at 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Helicopter Rides starting at 6:00 p.m. till dark at Broadway Street North across Highway 135.
Gala Night Parade starting 7:30 p.m. ~ Pre-parade activities start 7 p.m.
Spectactular Fireworks Show to follow parade!!!
Friday July 4th

Town Family Picnic featuring BBQ by Duke Skorich starting at 11 a.m. at the Skenzich Arena. Sponsored in part by the Trenti Law Firm. There will be a big tent for shade and listening music to enjoy. BBQ Menu: Pork & Beef BBQ Sandwiches, Hot Dogs, Coleslaw, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Fruit and Veggie Tray

Northern Lights Music Festival will present a concert at the Gilbert Jr. High Auditorium 3 p.m. The program will include Bach Unaccompanied Sonata for Cello Paganini Caprice Smentana String Quartet Mendelssohn Octet.
Lawn Mower Races 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. lot across from Delta Dental on South Broadway. Registration will be day of the races.

“Iron Ranger” Dinner 4 - 7 p.m. Downstairs of St. Joseph's Catholic Church sponsored by the Ladies of St. Joseph’s. Menu: Porketta & Sloppy Joe Sandwiches, Cheesy Potatoes, Funeral Cabbage, Chips, Death by Chocolate dessert Cost is $6-$7/person.
Street Dance on South Broadway 8 p.m. – 12 midnight featuring music by "Pyschobabble" (Twin Cities Band) sponsored by Devo's Sand Bar, Jim's Seldom Inn and Amy's Bar

Ecumenical Service and Centennial Closing Ceremony at the Gilbert High School Gymnasium at 8:00 a.m.
Sixth Annual Beach to Beach Swim / (Run optional). Start at 11 a.m.; pictures and instructions at 10:45 a.m. Begin at Eveleth Beach swim to Sparta Beach where there will be refreshments and snacks. 5K Run back to Eveleth Beach.
